SCREEN INDUSTRY TRAINING FOR ULTRA-LOW BUDGET FILMMAKING

THE ROGER CORMAN PROJECT is a screen industry development and production system merged with a Diploma of Screen & Media, designed to train up a new generation of rounded filmmakers, filmmakers who are familiar with all roles because they have done them, filmmakers who know how to stretch even zero budgets into production value, and how to use the limitations to spark their own creativity and that of their teams.

We dedicate this course to ROGER CORMAN, one of the most remarkable filmmakers in cinema history, a man who worked every trick in the book to get his work made, who deeply understood his audience, and who clearly revelled in the medium. This course honours his creativity, his generosity, his boldness and his cheek. He is the low-budget filmmaker’s filmmaker. (see his attached thumbnail biography)

This course formally consists of 15 units that touch on all the major aspects of filmmaking, and include some units on small business because for all filmmakers who succeed in getting work made, it is a business.

At the same time, the production level the course is truly exciting. The students will work in small rolling teams and will work at great speed. An example of the production output of a student body of 16 students would be:

  • 4 x TVC’s (television commercials) for actual businesses
  • 4 x MVC’s (music video clips) for working bands
  • 4 x 10 minute documentaries on each band
  • 4 x 10 to 27 minute documentaries on other subjects
  • 4 x 10 minute dramas

Student numbers may be capped at 24, so places are limited.

Following the course, QPIX selects the finest single pieces for representation to film festivals nationally and internationally, and in some cases packages groups of the work for representation to broadcasters and other sales points.

In the past, the output of the QPIX Certificate IV in Screen & Media has secured broadcast.
